This is the first edition to contain both, and the first American edition, published in Virginia within a few years of Washington’s death. These letters offer perhaps the best picture from his own pen of Washington as an agriculturist and plantation owner, seeking to improve both his own lands and those of his country through this correspondence with two of the leading British agricultural theorists.
