About the Book:If you’ve wished for some easily made, do-it-yourself, inexpensive, quick in-and-out ‘furniture’ for your Chevy, Dodge, or Ford Van, so it will do double duty as a work, or passenger vehicle and as a ‘camper’ for week-end, or vacation trips, these plans should fill the bill. And while all the pieces are designed for easy changing and storage along the side of the garage wall when not in use, they can be fitted more snugly together and permanently installed. But as portables, some of them do double, or triple duty and may be moved outside the van for use under one of the many available attachable, or self-contained fold-away awnings, a tent or a picnic tree. And for greater comfort; especially if you plan to use the van heavily for travel and camping, you can have a section of the top cut out and fitted to raise and give you full headroom in camp and to fold again for traveling. Or have it completely removed and replaced with a new completely streamlined top which remains high all the time. There are many trailer supply houses and conversion companies who do this work and most dealers have one or two they recommend. They, or the others, will install the head-liner (ceiling) panels and roof insulation at reasonable cost, or sell you the materials if you prefer to do it yourself. They’ll also line an unlined van completely; though since the wall panels are quite easy to attach and it may be necessary to first set in additional framing, or wood blocks as backing for the furniture, I‘d suggest doing this job yourself.
