HISTORY, TRIVIA, BIOGRAPHIES History of Tennessee’s wLincoln & Moore Counties New 95-Page Book Early days in Lincoln and Moore Counties in Middle Tennessee are recalled in this spiral bound booklet compiled from excerpts from: History of Tennessee, originally published in 1886 by Goodspeed Publishing Co., Counties of Tennessee by Austin P. Foster (1923), and Tennessee, a Guide to the State, a 1939 Federal Writer’s Project of the WPA. The new 95-page book has the print enlarged for easier reading. A vinyl sheet protects the front cover. Among the subjects included in the Lincoln section are: Physical features; Explorers; Names of early settlers, including James Bright, thru 1820; Mills; Organization of the county and county buildings; County officers; Courts — cases, lawyers and judges; Military matters, including the Civil War (Confederacy); Fayetteville invaded in 1862; Fayetteville — businesses, newspapers, lodges; Other towns — Petersburg, Mulberry, Boonshill, Dellrose, Booneville, Smithland, Camargo, Lincoln, Elora, Flintville and Kelso; Academies and public schools; Churches; and other items. Among the subjects included in the Moore section are: Physical features; Names of early settlers, including Col Davie (Davy) Crockett; ; Mills and cotton gins; Recollections of Moses Crawford; Distilleries, including Jack Daniels’; Organization of the county and county buildings; County officers; Courts cases and attorneys; Military matters, including the Civil War (Confederacy); Lynchburg — businesses, lodges, newspapers, the fire of 1883, schools and churches, etc. Besides the many names mentioned in the first part of the booklet, there are a number of biographies. Most are fairly lengthy, and often include ancestors, previous residences, children, in-laws, affiliations, war records, and business activities.
